Crispy Tortillas and Fresh Deals

Okay, I seriously have so much to share that I am so excited to tell you about! First of all, I'm adding a new section to the blog called Penny Pinching! This will be separated under a heading just for it and I'll be letting you in on the new ways Brandon and I are saving our money. We want to take better care of it, keep better track of it, and actually have a savings account! So if you have any tips, definitely let me know because I am open to anything. Alright, let's get started!

I am so so psyched about this. I found out that if you go to Dillon's Website they have digital coupons that you can load directly onto your Plus Card. You don't have to print any out or tick off the cashier, you just swipe your Plus Card or enter your alternate ID and BAM you have savings. You pick which coupons are loaded onto your card and you can use the same coupon up to 5x in the same transaction. The coupons are marked as used when you redeem them and removed from your account when they expire. Could it really be any easier to save?

Now to just make sure I don't buy anything just because I have a coupon! I might save $1.50 on cookies and cream ice cream, but is that really a necessity that's even on my grocery list. I think not!

It has been b-e-a-utiful in Kansas this winter. Sure, we've had some cold days, but we've also had days like yesterday. It was 64 degrees yesterday. 64 degrees! That being said, it's easy to motivate myself to go on a walk. Me, the mother in law, and the sister in laws went on a walk in the beautiful weather yesterday. =]

Food and Nutrition
So yesterday morning I woke up and I remembered that I needed to make something for a Mexican food potluck. I had been planning on making my awesome taco chili, but didn't want to go to the store to get ingredients. I decided to work with what I had on hand and ended up making an awesome recipe. I scoured Pinterest for food made with the ingredients I had and this is what I came up with:
(everyone loved it, by the way ;)

Crispy Tortillas
4-6 Tortillas
Vegetable oil/spray
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Use pizza cutter to cut tortillas into triangles.
3. Spray with vegetable oil or brush on.
4. Sprinkle with salt.
5. Cook for 7-10 minutes.

Black Bean Dip
1 can black beans, rinsed and drained
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon lime juice
2 tablespoons olive oil
4 tablespoons water
1 clove minced garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender (I just used my Magic Bullet) and blend until smooth. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

James 5:1-3
Come now, you rich, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. Your gold and your silver have rusted; and their rust will be a witness against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure!

I really have been struggling with our new need to pinch pennies, so this passage was just so convicting. I don't know why it's so hard for me to let go of the temporal things of this world. I could blame the rich society I live in, but really it just comes down to the fact that I'm a rotten sinner. I'm so glad that God has forgiven me for all my sins and especially all my shortcomings. I know that he will continue to be faithful in helping me overcome my materialism.

  1. I just started a Daniel Bible study, and the first half will be about fighting our culture's "It's all about me and what I want" materialistic mentality. So I thought it was cool that your devotion goes right with it! God has given us SO much more than we need!

I'm so excited to hear what you have to say! Thank you for taking the time to comment on my post! =]
